The Chosen

I believe, we were chosen

though unsure, on what grounds

that confusing confirmation

is as strange, as it sounds

from many, world corners

round the bend and afar

Parkinson’s has found us

knowing, where we are

I once thought the ‘members’, were restricted

to those, much older than me

then I heard, it’s expanded

to those designated

Young Onset PD

this unwelcome, life partner

has our future in its sites

it’ll  aim to control

whether we give in or fight

amongst this confusion

that’s cluttering our mind

is a belief, that we’ll forge on

leaving no one behind

we’re an eclectic assortment

and we’ll make room for more

we see strength in community

there’s no locks and no doors

now what if we stepped back

and from a new point of view

we looked at being chosen

as what life needs us to do

let’s spin our selection,

this choice that life’s made

and celebrate its blessings

like the birth of a new day

the world needs our spirit

our will and our drive

for every victory that we share

is a hope kept alive

chosen for a reason

beyond this life with PD

we are making a difference

that the world needs to see…

for myself, it is much clearer now

why those selected, have to be

for inspiring others, to be the best they can each day

is our true life destiny.
