Silver Birch in Lawrencefield

Plein Air (painted outdoors in the landscape). oil painting on canvas of the Granite Rocks and Silver Birch Trees at Lawrencefield in the Peak District in Northern England. I love to work on site in the landscape experiencing the changing light and weather, which makes capturing the view much more challenging but also much more rewarding.

I love working from the striking and rugged scenery found in the Peak District. I employ expressive mark making and colour in an attempt to capture the dramatic physical structures of the Peaks, scenery enhanced by the light and hues that the seasons bring, battered by the ever-changing weather that pushes through these northern English landscapes.
