Christopher Newpher

Chris Newpher is an abstract painter based in Phoenix Arizona. He grew up in the Washington DC area walking distance to a National Park. Between the city scapes and nature scenes and rich history of the area, Chris began to draw what he saw whenever he had something to write with. After spending some time as a bike messenger, cabinet builder and a long time in the restaurant industry he earned BFA at Colorado State University.

In 2018 Chris was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease after he noticed stiffness in his right arm and shoulder and a slight tremor in his right arm and leg when in stressful situations. After adjusting his diet and exercise routine and with the help of medicine he is still able to create his art. He paints and draws daily to battle his disease. Fortunately Chris is left handed so at this point he can still do fine detail in his work.

Chris’ oil paintings are based on chaos in shapes and lines that form a mosaic and sometimes contain an intentional narrative. HIs paintings are about living in a chaotic world and functioning in the ever changing dynamics of life. It is also important to realize the beauty around us in an often challenging world.
