Carlos Andres

My name is Carlos Andrés Ferrer. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in July 2009 when I was 48 years old. This blow was overshadowed by other challenges life was throwing at me. My children and my will to live were my driving force to keep going. Since then, my struggle has been to lead as normal a life as possible, preventing the disease from defining me. Living in the present, finding joy in the little things, and not taking anything for granted have been my guiding principles. My daily life has always been based on activity. I’ve been cycling since I was a child, although it was from the age of 30 onwards that it became the foundation of my physical activity. I firmly believe that cycling is one of the most beneficial sports for keeping the progression of Parkinson’s and its symptoms at bay. Cycling offers several benefits: it improves balance, coordination of movements, strength and endurance, and is also an aerobic exercise.
I am part of the DEGÉN Community as a mentor. My role consists of accompanying patients, whether newly diagnosed or at any other stage of the disease, to accept their new reality and overcome the challenges that their condition entails.
