Eurybia hemispherica (Southern Prairie Aster)
This photo was taken near Texarkana during the NPSOT annual symposium, in one of the few remaining pieces of the Great Plains that has not been converted to farmland or otherwise developed. It is a small plant, from one to three feet high, and is native Westward from Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma Eastward to Tennessee, Georgia and Florida (apparently not in the Carolinas). The sun was hitting the flower in the afternoon for this macro lens close-up, and the color was not saturated in the after image processing.
