After two years of frustration and a multitude of doctors and specialists and tests, Sue was finally diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2010 at the age of 51. A dedicated early childhood teacher, she was devastated to have to retire for health reasons in 2014.

In 2017 she read about boxing being good for PD and searched for a local gym to help establish boxing sessions in her home town. That group had tp stop. When COVID 19 lockdowns commenced. She now runs boxing mornings under her patio with helpful discussions happening over morning tea after the hard work. In May 2019, she produced a play by Sue Wylie about her diagnosis and the consequences which received rave reviews and won numerous awards. In August 2019, she started the group “The Unsteady Hand Mob” for people affected by Parkinson’s (either PWP, their caregivers/partners and/or family members. Held on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursdays of the month, this group participates in creative workshops which have been adapted where necessary to accommodate and pesky PD symptoms and the sessions are filled with laughter, support, friendship and more laughter).
