Nancy Peate

Nancy Peate began teaching herself watercolor painting five years ago, embracing the medium with determination and curiosity following her Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2014. Her work focuses primarily on North American birds, a subject that allows her to explore both the delicacy and vitality of the natural world. She draws inspiration from a wide range of watercolor bird artists, including the expressive, open‑brush style of Dean Crouser, whose vibrant depictions of hummingbirds and butterflies first sparked her interest in the medium. Among her recent pieces is a watercolor of a dark morph Least Bittern, a rare shorebird believed to have not been recorded in her region since 1928, reflecting her growing interest in portraying both familiar and seldom‑seen birds with sensitivity and detail. This exhibition is Peate’s first public showing of her work.
