I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 15 years ago after experiencing symptoms for two years without a diagnosis. I am currently 57 years old. I had never painted until I joined a Parkinson’s support group. I started painting with acrylics, but I became frustrated because when the levodopa was working, I had no problem, but when the effect wore off, I couldn’t move, and the paint would dry out. So I started painting with pastels, and with that technique, I have no problems at all. The paint can wait until I feel well without wasting any. Now I enjoy it and have found another way to communicate what words can’t say; painting does.
